Greece, the EU extends post-rescue enhanced surveillance

The mission chief's position is closed

26 July, 15:56
(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, JULY 26 - The EU Commission decided to extend for another six months the post-rescue enhanced surveillance program for Greece, in full compliance with the "two-pack" rules. Surveillance is a way to ensure that support for the Government continues. The government in Athens still has to implement a part of the reforms envisaged in the EU aid plan.

Besides, Brussels has decided to close the position of the chief of the EU mission to Athens: so far the team of European technicians who negotiated the three rescues was led by Declan Costello, who was appointed deputy general director of DG ECFIN a few days ago. Costello's former position is closed "thanks to the successful completion" of aid plans, the Commission reported. (ANSA).
