(ANSA) - TRIESTE, JUNE 14 - Rizzani de Eccher enters the Rail Baltica. After signing the € 430.5m contract for the Riga Railway Station, the de Eccher Group company, global infrastructure construction giant, along with the Belgian company Besix and Latvia's Rere, was awarded the first 2.6 km batch of the big infrastructure project known as Rail Baltica.

A press release reported that the construction work consists of the transformation of the existing Riga station into one of the most modern railway terminals ever built, with 26 escalators, 8 elevators, and large car parks. Rail Baltica, the release reads, is a greenfield railway system of 870km with an estimated value of around 6bn euros with a track gauge that allows direct connection of Estonia's, Latvia's and Lithuania's railways to the European rail network. Three multimodal centers and 7 passenger stations are included in the project. The work is funded by the European Community. (ANSA).
