Croatia to acquire drones to monitor illegal fishing

System will be used also for rescue at sea, wildfire prevention

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 16 MAG - Croatia will acquire a drone system from an Israeli company to fight illegal fishing in the Adriatic, Croatian media reported.

The drone system will cost EUR 4.8 million and 70 per cent of the value will be covered by EU funds, the Croatian public television HRT said, specifying that the system will include a launch ramp, six aircrafts and the logistics required for the operations.

The system will allow Croatia to monitor the territorial waters and in particular the ecological and fishing zones.

Croatian Agriculture Minister Tomislav Tolusic said that "the system will be used 60% of the time by the Agriculture Ministry for controlling fishing boats, the remaining 40% of the time it will be used by the Defense Ministry for rescue at sea, wildfire prevention," HRT reported. (ANSA).
