Tourism: Serbia, growing presence of Italians, up 7% in 2017

Serbian tourism at TTG Incontri 2017 in Rimini

(ANSA) - BELGRADE - The year 2017 is proving positive for tourism in Serbia, in particular for Italian visitors with a 7% increase in arrivals and a 6% growth in their presence, according to official data on the first eight months of the year presented at the tourism trade fair TTG Incontri 2017 in the coastal city of Rimini.

The data confirmed an overall 10% growth of arrivals and that the presence of visitors went up 10%.

On average, tourists visit for 2-3 nights with many opting to stay in Belgrade or to take or a trip to discover the Balkans.

Visitors can explore local culture and history, as well as natural attractions and cuisine.

Marija Labovic, director of Serbia's national tourism agency, said that ''the demonstration of the growing potential of the Italian market is the presence at TTG Incontri 2017 in out stand of three incomers and two hotels from Belgrade. This is for us a very interesting opportunity, both from the standpoint of the promotion of the country's excellence as well as to commercialize for our tour operators'', she said of the trade fair.

Serbia was confirmed as an all-year-round destination with tours across different cities and regions including a city-break in Belgrade and Novi Sad, a cruise along the Danube or a stopover during a trip to the former Yugoslavia.

Many also opted to travel for the holidays at the end of the year to experience local traditions.

A demonstration of this is the new edition of Lonely Planet's tour guide on ''Belgrade and Serbia'' that hit bookstores last summer with many more pages and advice for a trip to the land of Tesla and Djokovic to discover, among others, Balkan music and traditions.

On October 12-14 representatives of Serbia's national tourism agency, together with Serbian tour operators INTERTOURS, Balkan Holidays, Serbia Tour Operator and the sales managers of the hotels Prag and Life Design in Belgrade will meet tour operators, travel agencies, journalists and bloggers at the stand 180 in the Pavillion A1.
