(ANSA) - BRUXELLES, 26 SET - The European Union has invested 198.2 million for the modernisation of the railway line between the cities of Coslariu and Simeria, in central Romania. Trains will run at speeds of between 120 and 160 km/h, and the travel time between the two cities will be reduced by 45 minutes.

"Modernising the line will stimulate the economic competitiveness of the regions of central and western Romania, will preserve the environment, and will improve the quality of life of citizens in a concrete way," said European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Cretu.

868,000 people will benefit from faster connections, particularly in the districts of Alba and Hunodoara. Works will be completed in 2020.(ANSA).
