Germany: PMI Index rises to 54.3

(ANSA) - ROME - In Germany, manufacturing activity is growing.
In September, the PMI index reported by Markit Economics rose to 54.3 points from 53.6 in August. This is the preliminary reading and it is higher than the average estimate of 53.1. On the other hand, the service sector has slowed, decreasing from 51.7 to 50.6 points, and has gone just above the 50 point level, which represents the dividing line between expansion and contraction cycle. Consequently, the composite index, which combines the performances of both sectors, went down to 52.7, the lowest level in 16 months, from 53.3 in August. (ANSA).
