(ANSAmed) - LJUBLJANA, JULY 22 - The majority of the 108 migrants who were stopped on Friday in Slovenia next to the Croatian border, as reported during the weekend, were taken back to Croatia while 15 people, mainly minors, have applied for asylum in Slovenia, Koper police official Toma Cehovin told reporters. Cehovin stressed that police respected all legal and professional standards.

The statement followed several media requests regarding the treatment of migrants who were ordered to lie down in order to be searched before they were given water and food and taken to the police station.

The operation on Friday took place at the border of Bistrica (Ilirska Bistrica) with Croatia and involved 40 officers with the army's cooperation, in coordination with Croatian police forces.

Starting tomorrow, 35 units of the Slovenian armed forces will be deployed in addition to those currently patrolling the southern border.(ANSAmed).
