(ANSA) - ROME, NOVEMBER 28 - Italy's minister of Foreign
affairs and international cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi,
met with Slovenia's Foreign affairs minister and deputy premier
Miro Cerar yesterday evening at the Farnesina, in Rome, Italian
Foreign Ministry reported.
During the meeting, the excellent state of bilateral
relations was confirmed. These relations have made a qualitative
leap foward in recent years and have become stronger at every
level - as testified by the steady growth in trade - thanks also
to the role played by the respective national minorities, which
represent an important foundation to build a stronger
collaboration between the two countries. A broad convergence was
also recorded on the need to ensure the European prospect of the
Western Balkan countries is still on the agenda. Minister
Moavero then described to his Slovenian counterpart the
guidelines of the Italian presidency of the Central European
Initiative in 2019.
Deputy prime minister Cerar assured, due to some shared
values, that his country will play an active role. As for
migration, the Foreign minister expressed the urgent need to
fully implement the Conclusions of the European Council dating
back to June 2018, with particular reference to the sharing of
burdens in the accomodation of migrants rescued at sea. The need
for a new and more effective European approach to repatriations
was also underlined. With reference to the EU multi-annual
budget for the period 2021-2027, minister Moavero highlighted
the need to increase the resources dedicated to cooperation with
countries of origin and transit of migration flows. (ANSA).
