(ANSA) - Innsbruck (Austria), 20 Nov - ''The EU-strategy for the
Alpine Region (EUSALP) is a great development opportunity for a
homogeneous territory from a morphological, but above all
economic, point of view. It is crucial to the achievement of
common objectives, therefore the role of our Region today should
be stronger than in the past''. This is what the FVG regional
councillor for the EU policies, Pierpaolo Roberti, at the end of
the EUSALP general meeting. During the meeting the guidelines
lines of the upcoming Italian presidency of the strategy were
approved. In this regard, Roberti clarified that ''the Italian
presidency will be a springboard for our region's many
outstanding examples and highlights, not by chance the
strategy's crucial issues are environmental sustainability and
sustainable transport in the Alpine area, which the FVG has benn
enhanced by investing in the rail transport of goods and
people''. FVG councillor announced that ''in September 2019
Trieste will host an event, promoted by the Italian presidency,
and will deal with the issue of intermodality, with particular
reference to the Port of Trieste, which is the most important
harbor in the Alpine region for rail traffic. The expertise of
the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region in this field will be a best
practice for the other regions in the Alpine area and promote
the awareness of the opportunities that only the Julian port can
offer, thanks to the free point regime and its location along
the new silk road''. EUSALP is the fourth macro-regional
strategy of the European Union and covers a territory populated
by 80 million people (16% of the EU) spread over 48 regions in
seven countries: Austria, France, Italy, Germany, Slovenia,
Liechtenstein and Switzerland. (ANSA).
