Slovenia: Divaca-Koper, second track takes first steps

2TDK company, heads appointed, it will be soon official investor

(ANSA) - LUBIANA - The surveillance council of 2TDK, the project company set up in March by the Slovenian government to build the second track of the Divaca-Koper railway line, appointed Metod Dragonja as its president, and Zarko Sajic, as managing director.

The company reported in a press release, adding that by implementing the law on the second track and the appointments which are connected to this norm, 2TDK will assume the role of investor in the project, presumably at the beginning of December. Dragonja, who has so far been a consultant to 2TDK, has been chosen because he has extensive experience of managing complex business projects, which will ensure successful implementation of the project and transparency at all its stages.

The construction of the second railway track on the Slovenian coast is considered to be a strategic project for Slovenia, since it will be able to ensure further development of rail freight and offer the port of Koper an alternative logistical solution. In September the project was submitted to a referendum that, even though it did not reach the quorum, raised doubts about the construction of the second track. The proposers called for greater transparency and demanded a reassessment of costs and implementation procedures. (ANSA).
