Serracchiani,CrossCare strengthens cooperation with Slovenia

(ANSA) - TRIESTE - ''This project perfectly meets the needs
due to the demographic shift which is going on in our society
and can be implemented in harmonious combination with the reform
of the regional healthcare'', the president of the Autonomous
Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Debora Serracchiani, said today
- a statement issued by the Regional Council reported -
participating in the presentation of the CrossCare project
implemented under the program Interreg Italia Slovenia 2014-20.
Funding comes frome the European Regional Development Fund.
CrossCare pursues the goal of addressing challenges related to the aging of the population, taking into account imbalances in incomes, services for social inclusion and welfare systems in the area border. The strategy aims at strengthening the institutional cooperation capacity of public authorities and social health care providers, both public and private, and planning joint solutions to address the consequences of the ongoing demographic change.
In detail, one of the actions planned by the project is the establishment of health service points for the elderly and their families in rest homes. These points will be at the same time open to other citizens, with the aim of favouring personalised and continuous care to people, including family members, both at regional, and at cross-border level. Talking about the project's integration in the healthcare reform made by Friuli Venezia Giulia, Serracchiani underlined that CrossCare offers investment opportunities, especially those for multidisciplinary training for operators and family members and personalised care.
Moreover, the President of the FVG Region highlighted the process of reclassification of rest homes put in place by the regional administration to meet the needs of users, largely non-self-sufficient, and of those who work within these facilities.
Serracchiani underlined the international value of the project involving close cooperation between Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Slovenia, strengthening the excellent relations between the Region and the neighbouring republic.
The representative of Slovenia's Ministry of Welfare, Ales Kenda, explained the purpose of the project, and along with the president of the social cooperative Itaca, Orietta Antonini, said that Slovenia is also recording progressive aging of the population and ''these demographic shifts require effective institutional responses, from national to local level, including support for family members in home care''. Kenda reiterated the essential role played by day care centres, and then underlined that Slovenia is now one of Europe's more elderly countries: 250 people are over 100 years old, a number which is ten times higher than just 25 years ago. The CrossCare project is led by the social cooperative Itaca (leader), in partnership with the asp ITIS in Trieste, the retirement home Giuseppe Francescon in Portogruaro (Ve), the coastal home for pensioners in Koper, the Deos company in Ljubljana and the National Institute of Public Health of Slovenia. Among associated partners, in addition to FVG Region and Veneto, Slovenia's ministries of health and welfare, the protected residence for seniors in Sacile, the no. 5 Friuli Occidentale health care company, the no. 4 East Veneto local healthcare unit and Koper health care unit.
