Journey time comparable to air travel

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAY 24 - Officials from the Polish, Czech, Slovak and Hungarian governments have signed this week a declaration for the construction of a future high-speed railway link between Warsaw, Prague, Bratislava and Budapest, Radio Poland reported.

The Polish news agency Pap has quoted Slovakia's Infrastructure Minister Arpad Ersek saying that trains would travel at speeds up to 300 kilometers per hour on the line, with journey times comparable to air travel. Andrzej Adamczyk, the Polish Minister of Infrastructure, explained that the PMs of the so-called Visegrad group are currently discussing sources of financing the investments, the specialized portal Financial Observer said. Last March, the Hungarian government said that "the preparation of the feasibility study" for the high-speed railway "is already underway" and that the four Central European countries "are counting on the participation of the European Development Bank in the project's financing."
