EU invest 500 million euros for SMEs in Central Europe

Commissioner Katainen says deal will help to scale up businesses

(ANSA) - BRUXELLES, 7 MAG - The European Investment Bank (EIB) signed a new deal with the Italian bank Unicredit to finance small and medium businesses in Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania; as well as in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. EU's support falls into Juncker Plan's European Fund for Strategic Investments (Efsi) and provides 500 million euros to SMEs.

Entrepreneurs in Central Europe "can now apply to UniCredit for loans with the EU budget guarantee to start up and scale up their businesses", EU Commissioner for Growth, Jyrki Katainen, said. The Commissioner is also "glad" that the European Union pays specific attention to financing more female entrepreneurs.

Carlo Vivaldi, Head of Central and Eastern Europe Division of UniCredit, said that the deal makes easier for SMEs to access to credit and a will boost local economies. (ANSA).
