(ANSA) - BELGRADE, APR 30 - Serbia and Kosovo are committed to
continuing to focus their efforts on resuming the EU-mediated
dialogue, aiming to normalize their relations and reach a final
agreement.
This dialogue confirms the European prospect for the Western
Balkan countries in the framework of the 'Berlin Process',
according to the closing statement of the Western Balkan summit
which took place in Berlin last night. German Chancellor Angela
Merkel and French president Emmanuel Macron organized the
meeting. The document, Serbian media reported today, emphasized
that a binding agreement between Belgrade and Pristina is
crucial to Serbia's and Kosovo's path towards European
integration.
Participating countries reaffirmed their commitment to
working and strengthening collaboration within the 'Berlin
Process', which includes economic cooperation, free markets,
security, reconciliation, and exchanges. The next summit within
the framework of the 'Berlin Process' will take place in Poznan
(west of Poland) in July.
At the same time, the closing statement underlined the need
to intensify collaboration to counter radicalization and
religious extremism and fight against terrorism, illegal
immigration, corruption, and organized crime. The participants
expressed satisfaction with Croatia's intention to organize an
EU-Western Balkans summit during its rotating presidency of the
European Union in the first half of 2020. The Berlin summit was
attended - along with Merkel, Macron and to EU High
Representative Federica Mogherini - the heads of state and
government of Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Northern
Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Croatia, and Slovenia. (ANSA).
