Serbia: drivers 'on strike' against fuel price hikes

Traffic jam in Belgrade and in other cities

09 June, 11:41
(ANSA) - BELGRADE - A significant number of drivers in Serbia protested against fuel price hikes on Friday afternoon. Friday's protests in Belgrade, Pancevo, Novi Sad, Nis, Novi Pazar, Sabac and other cities provoked major traffic jams and were organized through social networks. The traffic was halted from 17 o' clock until 18 in the afternoon, exactly on the rush hour. According to local media, the prices of gasoline and diesel increased by 5-6% in the last month, reaching respectively 1,28-1,41 euro. In Serbia, the average net salary is around 420 euro monthly.

Similar protest will be held in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday. (ANSA).
