ESOF 2020: let's create a Science Centre in Trieste

The goal of Trieste Encounters Science Innovation

05 March, 21:28
(ANSA) - TRIESTE, MAR 5 - The creation of an international Science Centre in Trieste is one of the strategic objectives of the Trieste Encounters on Science and Innovation (TESI), operational tool of the Trieste International Foundation, committed to discussing and promoting concrete actions in the context of proEsof, as stages towards ESOF Trieste 2020.

The goal was described by Professor Bruno Della Vedova, Tesi's coordinator, at the end of the meeting that brought together all the coordinators of the seven proEsof tables at the Porto Vecchio hydroelectric substation in Trieste, in order to discuss the next steps. ''We intend to involve these 7 tables with the corresponding partners and networks already existing in the Central and Eastern European countries through specific cross-cutting events - Della Vedova said -; the first meeting, scheduled for 15 and 16 March in Trieste, will focus on the 'public understanding of science', then on museums, science centres, science communication at all levels ''.

The meeting will include some of the leading exponents of Science Centres, Science Museums and other organizations from north-eastern Italy, from Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Republic Slovak and Slovenia'', in order to connect with these networks that have already developed advanced projects and make proposals that, using and benefiting from the ESOF brand, can build strong partnerships and apply for funding to help build a permanent Science Centre''. The idea is to establish it in the spaces of the warehouse 26 that the Municipality will make available to ESOF and where the laboratory of scientific imagery will be transferred in 2019.

''This place will be the hub and will act as a catalyst''. ''In this space we would like to set up two new modules in view of ESOF 2020, a 'leading lab' module in which guests, visitors and schoolchildren can see with their own eyes the scientific and technical innovations - Della Vedova explained - and a second module we want to call 'antenna', where we will establish network links with advanced research centres (such as MIT, Berkeley, Stanford and others) to see what they are proposing.

For Italy and the scientific system of FVG, this would become a great opportunity to show the innovative projects that we are developing here for the future, in different fields, also showing the outcomes in terms of new jobs''. (ANSA).
