27 March, 13:23
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 27 MAR - Romania is resuming the procedure for the expansion of its sole nuclear power plant, Cernavoda, local media reported.

The Romanian Energy Ministry, which controls 80% of Nuclearelectrica, the operator of Cernavoda, has asked a formal agreement "from the shareholders of Nuclearelectrica for signing a preliminary agreement with the Chinese investor for the expansion of the plant with two new reactors," the specialized portal Romania Insider said. The partner of Nuclearelectricea in the project is the China General Nuclear (CGN) Power Corporation and its local subsidiary, Romania Insider added.

The shareholders should vote on the proposal by the mid-April. The project of expansions consists in development of Cernavoda's 3rd and 4th reactors with an estimated cost of 5 billion euros. (ANSA).
