(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 11 OTT - Around 400,000 Bulgarian workers
are employed but remain poor due to their low income, according
to data presented by Galab Donev, Secretary of Social Policy and
Health of President Rumen Radev, the Bulgarian news agency
Novinite reported.
Today, over 1.7 million Bulgarians have an income under BGN
600, around 306 euros, while the cost of living for this year is
BGN 585, approximately 299 euros monthly, while the minimum wage
is BGN 510.
According to Eurostat data, 9.6% of employed persons aged
over 18 in the European Union were at risk of poverty after
social transfers in 2016. In 2016, Eurostat said last March, the
rate of employed persons at risk of poverty was highest in
Romania (18.9%), followed at a distance by Greece (14.1%), Spain
(13.1%), Luxembourg (12.0%), Italy (11.7%), Bulgaria (11.4%),
Portugal (10.9%) and Poland (10.8%).
The highest increases between 2010 and 2016 were recorded in
Hungary (from 5.3% to 9.6%) and Bulgaria (+3.7%), (ANSA).
