(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 17 AGO - Around 1,200 wild board and
2,400 jackals living in the area of the Danube Delta will have
to be killed due to the risk of spreading the African swine
fever (ASF), according to Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve
Governor Malin-Matei Musetescu, quoted by the Romania portal
Business Review.
Without the elimination of animals in the area, wild boars
"would probably be less than 10 percent" of the actual
population, Musetescu was quoted as saying. The governor added
that jackals have also to be killed because they are
transporters of the virus.
Business Review recalled that actually there are more that
600 outbreaks of swine fever in the country, with only seven
reported to be closed. (ANSA).
