(ANSA) - BRUXELLES - "Bucharest can do a lot" and "plays a key role for the Western Balkans EU integration process", the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, said today in Brussels, during a joint press point with the newly-appointed Romanian Prime Minister, Viorica Dancila.

Romania will take the EU presidency in January 2019 and "will have to pursue the work of the Bulgarian and Austrian Presidency" on the Western Balkans, Tajani pointed out.

"I asked the Romanian government to continue firmly the reforms process to strengthen rule of law, fight against corruption, transparency and competitiveness", Tajani underlined. Today the EP President "received reassuring answers" by the Romanian PM Dancila, who is also keen to "illustrate in plenary Romania's projects for the EU future".

During the coming Romanian presidency, "the Brexit process will end and it will be important to cooperate on this important dossier", Tajani pointed out. (ANSA).
