(ANSA) - BUCHAREST - OMV Petrom, the largest energy company in Romania, has launched a new drilling campaign in the Black Sea in the shallow waters of the Istria block, the company has announced on Monday.

Four new wells will be drilled during the campaign: three wells for the current deposits and an exploration well, with investments amounting to EUR 70 million, The Romania Journal informs.

The campaign includes the drilling of two wells by the end of this year and two other wells by mid-2018. The oil and gas output in shallow waters (Istria block) is about 30,000 barrels oil equivalent/day, representing about 18% of the group's production in Romania.

The production in the Black Sea comes from five exploited fields: Lebada Est (discovered in 1979), Lebada Vest (discovered in 1984), Sinoe (discovered in 1988), Pescarus (discovered in 1999) and Delta (discovered in 2007). (ANSA).
