(ANSA) - SKOPJE, JANUARY 3 - Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran
Zaev (Social Democrat) resigned today with his government,
according to the procedure required by the early vote scheduled
for April 12th. At the end of a long and deep political crisis,
the government in Skopje - according to agreements reached in
recent years - must resign 100 days before the early general
elections, leaving its place to a technical cabinet who will
bring the country to vote in spring.
Zaev, who is the leader of the Social Democratic Party and
who was the protagonist of the historic agreement with Greece on
the new name of the former Yugoslav country, announced the early
vote last October after the European Council had postponed the
start of the accession negotiation to the EU with North
Macedonia and Albania.
