(ANSA) - TIRANA, FEB 14 - The Albanian Parliament today
unanimously ratified the protocol for the accession of Northern
Macedonia to Nato. Albania thus becomes the third country to
give clearance to accession after Greece and Slovenia. Albania's
premier Edi Rama called the moment ''solemn'', highlighting
''the irreplaceable role of the Albanians'' in the neighboring
country, ''without them there would not have been a Northern
Macedonia'' and also ''the courageous leadership of Macedonia's
premier Zoran Zaev''.
The president of the Macedonian parliament Tela Xhaferri
thanked Albania for the ''continuous support'' considering
today's act as ''the confirmation of the strong friendship
binding the two countries''. Xhaferri said he hoped that ''by
the end of this year, all member countries will have ratified
the protocol so that Northern Macedonia will become the 30th
member of Nato''. (ANSA).
