(ANSA) - SKOPJE, 3 OCT - More than 100,00 Macedonian seasonal workers have been illegally rectruited in Italy, mainly in the agricultural sector. But the exact number is unknown and could be higher, since a huge number of them look for work in Italy with a Bulgarian passport that many Macedonians are able to obtain. Macedonian union of agricultural workers reported the issue and unveiled the poor living standards of seasonal workers in Italy: very low wages and no social and health insurance. ''According to available information, we know that the Macedonians in Italy earn 6.5 euros per hour, while those who have a Bulgarian passport get 8.5 euros per hour, everyone works illegally and none of them has an insurance'', said the union's president Zivko Danevski, according to local media. In order to improve the workers' conditions, contacts are under way between the Macedonian trade union leaders with their Italian counterparts. In Macedonia, those who demonstrate that they have ancestors and kinship originating in neighbouring Bulgaria, EU member country, can obtain a Bulgarian passport, which allows them to take advantage of various facilitations, especially for travel and requests for documents.
