Transports: road freight increase in certain CEE countries

Poland with highest share in the EU, 18%

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 23 NOV - Road freight transport strongly increased between 2016 and 2017 in several countries in Central- and Eastern Europe.

According to new Eurostat data, made public today, the highest increase in the European Union was recorded in Lithuania (+26.2%), followed by Cyprus (+17.5 %), Greece (+15.5 %) and Poland (15.3%), while the largest falls were registered in Belgium (-13.4 %), Czechia (-12.0 %) and Estonia (-7.8 %).

At EU level, the road freight transport increased by 4.5% between 2016 and 2017, but it increased by 11.8% between 2013 and 2017, Eurostat noted.

In 2017, Poland was at the top in the EU, with a 18% share, in terms of the proportion of total tonne-kilometres of road freight transport attributable to EU Member States, Eurostat said. Poland was followed by Germany (16%), Spain (12%), France (9%), the United Kingdom (8%) and Italy (6%). (ANSA).
