Life expectancy in Bulgaria,Latvia,Lithuania lowest in EU

(ANSA) - SOFIA - Life expectancy at birth of the Bulgarian population calculated for the period 2015 - 2017 is 74.8 years.

Compared to the previous period (2014 - 2016) it increased by 0.1 years. According to Bulgarian National Statistics Institute, Bulgaria, Latvia and Lithuania (74.9 years) are the countries with lowest life expectancy in the EU. Different mortality rates among male and female, as well as among urban and rural population resulted in differences in the life expectancy at birth for these population categories. Life expectancy at birth for male population is 71.3 years, while for female it is 7.1 years higher - 78.4 years. Between 2007 and 2017, the life expectancy at birth increased for male population by 2.0 years, while for female - by 2.1 years.

Life expectancy of the urban population (75.6 years) is 2.8 years higher than of the rural (72.8 years). Compared to 2007, an increase of 2.6 years is observed for the urban population and of 1.3 years - for rural. (ANSA).
