Tourism: overnights up in Latvia, Lithuania, Balkans

Good results also in Poland, stable in Greece

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JAN 23 - Latvia, Lithuania but also several Western Balkan countries recorded very good results in relation to the nights spent in tourist accommodation establishments in 2018. According to Eurostat data made public today, the largest increases in tourist overnights in the EU between 2017 and 2018 were registered in Latvia (+8.3%), Lithuania (+7.7%), Malta (+6.5%), but also in Poland (+5.8%) and Romania (+5.5%).

In Central- and Eastern Europe good performances were recorded also in the Czech Republic (+4.5%), Germany (+4.3%), Croatia (+3.9%), Hungary (+3.8%), Slovakia (+3.3%), Bulgaria (+3.2%), Austria (+2.9%) and Estonia (+2.0%). Nights spent in accommodation in Greece were relatively stable between 2017 and 2018 (+0.5%).

High increase in nights spent in tourist accommodation establishments were recorded in 2018 also in several Western Balkan countries still not member of the EU. Overnights in Macedonia increased by 18.9% in Macedonia year-on-year, by 12.4% in Serbia, by 11.7% in Kosovo and by 7.5% in Montenegro. In the EU, Eurostat said, the number of nights spent in tourist accommodation establishments has reached more than 3.1 billion in 2018, up by 2.2% compared with 2017. (ANSA).
