Power: agreement between Baltic Countries and Poland

Synchronization of grids to 'break away' from Russia

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS - A political agreement between the Baltic countries and Poland was made in order to get rid of energy dependence on Russia and be more connected to the European market. The energy ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have agreed, under the auspices of the EU Commission, to disengage from the Russian system and synchronize their electricity grid with the European one, through Poland, the representatives of the four countries announced, along with Commissioners Canete and Sefcovic on the sidelines of the Energy Council. The goal is to find a solution at the latest by next May 31st for the best way to accomplish the technical operation, which will help these countries to have secure energy supplies.

Historically, the Baltic electric grid is connected with the Russian and Belarusian ones. (ANSA).
