Kosovo: incidents in Mitrovica, Serbs quit government

32 wounded, 5 seriously injured. Thaci issued an appeal for calm

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MARCH 27 - After yesterday's incidents in Kosovska Mitrovica, the Serbian minority party (Srpska Lista) decided to quit the government. Goran Rakic, president of Srpska Lista, said that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will be informed of this decision.

''Dialogue in these conditions makes no sense, when unarmed people are brutally attacked by officers loaded for bear,'' Rakic said. This decision could undermine the ruling majority in Pristina.

During the Kosovar police intervention against a Serb meeting yesterday in Kosovska Mitrovica, in which the head of the Serbian government office for Kosovo Marko Djuric (later expelled to Serbia), was arrested, 32 people were injured, five of whom in a serious way. Among the wounded was Kosovo's Agriculture minister, Serbia's Nenad Rikalo, the director of the northern Mitrovica (Serbian sector) polyclinic, Milan Ivanovic, reported. Kosovo's president Thaci issued an appeal for calm last night. (ANSA).
