Media can help to save democracy? An international debate

Seemo, Cei and others 3-days Conference in Sofia

(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 25 NOV - "Public discourse in Europe: Can media help to save democracy?". That's the question many news organisation will try to answer at, during a three-days International Conference Seemf (South East Europe Media Forum) in Sofia (Bulgaria) organized by South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO; Vienna), Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (Berlin), Central European Initiative (Cei; Trieste).

From 27 to 29 November journalists, news anchors, editors from about twenty countries (Balkans, Central Europe, South East Europe) will debate about the role of media business today in the context of fake news, populism, budget constraints and the digital revolution.

After the opening speeches, the welcome Address by Lilyana Pavlova, Minister for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU 2018 and a video Message by Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, will start five discussions around media and politics, securing media freedom, journalism as a battlefield, european public sphere and journalism 2020, followed by concluding addresses and closing remarks on 28th November. A meeting of Commission on Media Policy and an award ceremony will close the Forum on 29th November. (ANSA).
