Kosovo: Serbia's PM, we will not recognise independence

Brnabic, but we will continue dialogue to normalise relations

(ANSA) - BELGRADE - Belgrade will not recognise Kosovo'S independence, but intends to continue the dialogue, aiming to normalise relations with Pristina, said Serbian PM Ana Brnabic.

''I do not think Belgrade will recognise Kosovo's independence but we are willing to continue the dialogue so as to improve relations with Pristina'', said Brnabic told Albanian TV 'Oranews'. According to the premier, it is also important to implement the EU-mediated agreements between the two parties reached so far.

''Serbia has done a lot to implement the obligations assumed under these agreements, and we expect Pristina to do the same, especially with regard to the sections of such agreements which concern the life of the Serbian community (in Kosovo, ndr)'', the head of the government in Belgrade added. A meeting between Serbian and Kosovar presidents will take place in Brussels on August 31. In the past few weeks, Serbia's president Aleksandar Vucic has proposed to initiate a broad civil society dialogue in Serbia on the prospects for relations with Pristina, and someone sees this step as a softening of Belgrade's stance, the first towards the recognition of Kosovo.
