Hungary: German companies less optimistic on local economy

Expectations worse than half-a-year ago, but still good

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 29 OTT - German companies operating in Hungary are less optimistic about the economy in Hungary than six months ago, revealed a survey of the German-Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DUIHK), the Budapest Business Journal reported.

A similar survey in February showed record levels of optimism from German companies in relation to the state of the Hungarian economy.

The new survey, made in September-October, shows however that 35% of the respondents expect now that the general state of the economy to become better (43% in February), while 13% of companies expect a turn for the worse (6% in the previous survey).

Around 55% of the companies surveyed expect a growth in revenues (-15% compared to February), 17% predict a decrease (+9%), only 25% have positive expectations regarding exports (-15%). "The companies view the momentary state of the Hungarian economy similarly positive as in the spring, but the expectations for the next period have become darker," says Dale A. Martin, president of DUIHK, quoted by the Budapest Business Journal. (ANSA).
