Psychiatry: Mezzina awarded with the Gamian-Europe prize

The prestigious award acknowledges the "Trieste model"

(ANSA) - TRIESTE - Roberto Mezzina, director of the Department of Mental Health of Trieste, will be awarded 22 September with the prestigious "European Personality Award for the year", given by the GAMIAN-Europe NGO to personalities that stand out in the field of psychiatry.

GAMIAN is the main non-governmental organization in Europe representing interests of people with mental disorders and safeguarding their rights. The association is involved in the fields of protection, information and education.

The award will be given in Budapest to Mezzina, a psychiatrist operating in Trieste and the first Italian since 2005, when the prize has been founded. The GAMIAN-Europe award has been given to European politicians and members of the WHO and of the World Psychiatric Association.
