1,500 Italian students in Greece for 'pop philosophy'
Italian ambassador Marras says part of 'Tempo Forte' initiatives

(ANSA) - NAPLES - Italian ambassador to Greece Luigi Marras
helped kick off the 4th Festival of Philosophy in Greece in
Athens, calling it a "preview of Tempo Forte, an Italo-Greek
platform of cultural initiatives to further highlight the
relations between the two countries".
The Greek festival is a spin-off of the original Italian Festival of Philosophy, which has been taking place in Italy for the past 10 years across various Italian cities.
In the coming days, 1,500 Italian students will participate in the Greek version of the festival to learn about Greek philosophers in some the most important locations for Western philosophy across the country, including Athens, Corinth, Epidaurus, Mycenae, Messini (Messene) and Loutraki.
The festival includes the participation of Lucrezia Ercoli, founder of the Italian pop philosophy website Popsophia, dedicated to teaching young people about philosophy through pop culture and fiction vehicles such as Star Wars and Harry Potter.
The festival will also offer the students chances for philosophical debates, philosophical-theatrical walks, "agorà", workshops in practical philosophy and competitions.
The Greek edition was launched by a press conference at the Italian Cultural Institute of Athens, with the attendance of the Institute's director Monica Zecca, Attica Regional Governor Rena Dourou, Attica Regional Tourism Councillor Theodoros Angelopoulos, as well as Festival of Philosophy in Magna Grecia President Giuseppina Russo and Vice President Iriana Marini.
Dourou, who is participating for the fourth year in the festival, said the event has helped "we Greeks in some way rediscover philosophy as an opportunity for identity, growth, and promotion of our area".
"And thanks to this festival, we're increasingly closer to Italy. Many Italian students come and are here for these days in a programme aimed at philosophy. These young people become an important chance for promoting a truly infinite cultural heritage," Dourou said.
The Italian students will take part in festival activities in the archaeological areas of Mycenae and Epidaurus, in a philosophical-theatrical walk at the Acropolis in Athens, and in the archaeological area of Messene. (ANSA).
