(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, 04 JULY - The Western Balkan summit opened
today in Poznan. Leaders and Ministers from ten EU Member States
(Italy, Bulgaria, Germany, France, Greece, Croatia, Austria,
Poland, Slovenia and Great Britain) and from the six Western
Balkan countries, along with EU High Representative Federica
Mogherini, European Commissioners Johannes Hahn and Violeta
Bulc, will focus on regional cooperation and good neighbourly
relations, security, connectivity and the rule of law.
The EU delegation aims at strengthening links within the region
and with the European Union by launching new programmes to
improve transport and energy connectivity and to boost digital
transformation.
Commissioner Hahn delivered a keynote speech this morning at the
Grand Opening session. "Of the 1 billion Euro the Commission
pledged at my first Western Balkans Summit in Vienna in 2015,
90% has already been committed. Those grants are leveraging
total investments of about 3.2 billion Euro and will contribute
to the creation of more than 45,000 jobs", he said.(ANSA).
