Avramopoulos says Schengen must go back to normal operation
Says no reason to prolong checks at internal borders

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS - European Commissioner for Migrants
Dimitris Avramopoulos said he believes it's "time to go back to
the normal functioning of Schengen", speaking upon entrance at
the EU Internal Affairs Council on Thursday.
"I don't think there are reasons to prolong the checks at internal borders," Avramopoulos said.
The EU Internal Affairs Council meeting was requested by France, Germany, Denmark, Austria, and Norway, to create the possibility for extending internal borders checks due to the threat of terrorism. Last week, however, Avramopoulos had announced the EC is working on a modification of the Schengen Agreement. (ANSA).
