In Estonia the lowest debt to GDP ratio in the EU
Slovenia recorded the strongest decrease year-on-year
21 January, 19:04According to Eurostat data, published today, the lowest debt levels were seen in Estonia (8.0%), Luxembourg (21.7%) and Bulgaria (23.1%), but also the Czech Republic and Romania (both 33.9%), Lithuania (35.0%), Latvia (37.1%), Poland (49.4%), Slovakia (51.5%), Slovenia (71.0%), Hungary (72.4%) and Croatia (74.5%) recorded debt levels lower than the government debt to GDP ratio in the euro area (86.1%) and in the EU28 (80.8%) at the end of the third quarter of 2018.
The highest ratios of government debt to GDP at the end of the third quarter of 2018 were recorded in Greece (182.2 %), Italy (133.0%), Portugal (125.0%), Eurostat said.
Compared with the third quarter of 2017, several countries in Central- and Eastern Europe registered among the strongest decreases in their debt to GDP ratio: among them, Slovenia (-8.0%), Austria (-4.3%), Lithuania (-4.2%) and Croatia (-4.0%).
