In Poland highest use of alternative car fuels in the EU

In Hungary petrol fuel cars predominant

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JANUARY 11 - in 2016, Poland was the country in the European Union that registered the highest use of alternative fuels, other than petrol and diesel, for private cars, official data show.

According to Eurostat, the percentage of alternative fuels was 16% in Poland, followed by Lithuania (10%), and Italy and Latvia (both 8%).

Alternative fuels include electricity, LPG, natural gas, alcohols, mixtures of alcohols with other fuels, hydrogen, biofuels (such as biodiesel) and others, documents from Eurostat show.

The EU statistical office said that in 2016 over half the cars ran on petrol in 15 out of 24 Member States, with the largest share registered in Cyprus (86%), Finland (75%) and Hungary (70%).

Diesel-driven cars were more popular in France (69%), Lithuania (65%), Luxembourg (64%), Belgium (60%), Austria and Spain (both 57%), Portugal (54%) and Latvia (53%). (ANSA).
