Food: Romanians spend proportionally the most in the EU

High share also in Bulgaria, Lithuania, Estonia, Hungary

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 04 DIC - In 2017, households in the European Union spent 12.2 % of their total consumption expenditure on food and non-alcoholic beverages, but the percentage is twice higher in Romania, data from the EU statistical office Eurostat show.

Eurostat informed today that Romanians spent 27.8 percent of their total household expenditure on those items and products last year, followed by Lithuanians (21.6%), Estonians (20.3%), Bulgarians (19.2%), Hungarians (18.2%) Slovaks (18.1%), Latvians (17.8%), Greeks (16.9%) and Poles (16.8%), while the United Kingdom spent the least, with 8.2%.
