(ANSA) - BUCHAREST - The Hungarian PM Viktor Orban has stated on Wednesday that Budapest would rather help Romania protect its eastern border to stop the migrant flows than build a fence at the Romanian-Hungarian border, MTI reports.

''Sooner or later an efficient protection at Romania's eastern border will be needed. Should be otherwise, Romania will be overwhelmed by immigrants, and we'll be forced to build a fence at the border with Romania. Obviously, we want to avoid this and we'll gladly help Romania protect its eastern border,'' Orban stated.

The Hungarian premier pointed out that Romanian and Hungary could have ''a successful cooperation'' in the upcoming years, adding that he expects Central Europe to cross the best decades in the history. ''It's up to Romania to decide if it will join this success story of the Central Europe, by cooperating with Hungary and involving in the joint economic projects and establishing joint projects with the states in the regions. We can find a cooperation way of the Visegrad Group plus Romania, to contribute to the living standard rise, to the increase of security. We'll keep our door open,'' Orban concluded. (ANSA).
