(ANSA) - ZAGREB, DECEMBER 2 - In Croatia, after nearly two
months of strikes and protests, the labor unions of the public
education sector and the government reached today a compromise
agreement on the wage dispute. The protest will cease tomorrow
and all the schools will reopen.
The unions, which demanded an immediate increase of 6% in
salaries, accepted the government's proposal which provides for
the same increase but gradually.
Teachers will see an increase of 3 percent in wages starting
next month, a further 1% from June and another 2% from January
2021. The schools' strike began on October 10 and was the
longest in the history of Croatia, recording the participation
of 30,000 teachers at primary and junior high schools.(ANSA).
