Slovenia most innovative country in Southeast Europe

GII 2019 ranking: in the region second Bulgaria, third Croatia

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JULY 31 - Slovenia ranked the best in Southeast Europe in the recently published Global Innovation Index (GII) 2019, a report that measures the innovation performances of nearly 130 economies in the world, produced by the Cornell University, INSEAD and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Slovenia ranked 32nd in the general ranking, followed by Bulgaria (40th), Croatia (44th), Montenegro (45th), Romania (50th), Serbia ( 57th), Moldova (58th), North Macedonia (59th), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (76th), the portal SeeNews reported, noting that "Albania was the lowest ranked country in Southeast Europe at the 83th spot, out of a total of 129 countries reviewed." According to the study, North Macedonia climbed the most positions in 2019, 25 in total compared to 2018, and the country was included among the "innovation achievers" in 2019, economies that outperformed on innovation relative to GDP.
