Juncker, EC should let Croatia enter Schengen by 2019

'Country is also ready to join the EU exchange rate mechanism'

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, JUNE 07 - The European Commission should ask the EU Council to let Croatia enter the Schengen area "by the end of our term", in November, said the EC president Jean-Claude Juncker, during a joint press conference with Croatia's premier Andrej Plenkovic in Zagreb. Juncker, on his first official visit to Croatia, underlined that the country is "ready" also to enter the European Exchange Rate Mechanism that anticipates the entry of a country into the eurozone, the so-called AEC II (European exchange rate agreements). "The public debt has decreased significantly and at high speed," explained Juncker, adding that Brussels "has no opinion against" Croatia's path toward the euro. (ANSA).
