Increases above EU average also in Romania and Poland

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 04 MAG - Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions
from fossil fuel combustion increased significantly in various
Central- and Eastern European EU countries between 2016 and
2017, the EU statistical office Eurostat said today.
The highest increases were recorded, after Malta (+12.8% compared with 2016), in Estonia (+11.3%) and Bulgaria (+8.3%), followed by Spain (+7.4%) and Portugal (+7.3%), Eurostat noted.
CO2 emissions increased by 1.8% in the European Union.
Increases above the EU average were registered also in Hungary (+6,9%), Romania (+6,8%), Poland, (+3,8%), Slovakia and Lithuania (+3,7%), and Slovenia (+3,1%), while below the average increases were recorded in Croatia (+1,2%) and in the Czech Republic (+1%). The increase in Italy was 3.2%.
Decreases in CO2 emissions were registered in Finland (-5.9%), Denmark (-5.8%), the United Kingdom (-3.2%), Ireland (-2.9%), Belgium (-2.4%), Latvia (-0.7%) and Germany (-0.2%).
Eurostat informed that CO2 emissions "account for around 80% of all EU greenhouse gas emissions. They are influenced by factors such as climate conditions, economic growth, size of the population, transport and industrial activities." (ANSA).
