Croatia: EU revised upwards growth rate, GDP up 3.2%

Economy withstood the Agrokor crisis

(ANSA) - ZAGREB - The European Commission revised upwards the growth forecast of Croatia's GDP in 2017, from the previous 2.9 percent to 3.2 percent. According to the EC, the economy of the Balkan country has shown a strong resistance to the crisis of the agri-food giant Agrokor, the largest company in Croatia, which has been run by a special commissioner since April in order to prevent bankruptcy due to too many debts. According to today's economic forecasts, in the first half of 2017 the impact of Agrokor crisis was much lower than expected.

Positive trends were also due to a strong growth in manufacturing sector and retail sales, as well as an excellent tourist season, which recorded, for the first time, 100 million overnight stays. (ANSA).
