(ANSA) - ZAGREB - The government of Croatia, led by Andrej Plenkovic (Conservative), decided in Thursday to postpone the introduction of a property tax, which could seriously penalise the owners of mutilple homes. This decision, made today by the Croatian government and forwarded to Parliament for approval, was announced by Plenkovic a month ago after protests from some associations and individual citizens. Finance Minister Zdravko Maric explained that postponement does not mean full withdrawal, but in the future it will be necessary to communicate and explain to citizens the validity and the meaning of this taxation. According to some analysts, however, this postponement would also be the result of the pressures of some entrepreneurs, especially hoteliers and landlords. Even five years ago, the former left-center government, following a first announcement of a reform of property taxation comparable to the one 'frozen' today, decided to forsake its implementation after similar pressures.
