(ANSA) - BELGRADE, SEPTEMBER 10 - Central- and Eastern
European Union member countries were awarded several significant
portfolios in the next European Commission led by
President-elect Ursula von der Leyen. Von der Leyen made public
the assignments of all portfolios today.
The new Commission will have eight Vice-Presidents. Among
them, three Executive Vice-Presidents, including Valdis
Dombrovskis (Latvia), who will coordinate the Economic policies
and will be Commissioner for financial services. Among the other
Vice-presidents, Vera Jourova (Czech Republic, Values and
Transparency), Maros Sefcovic (Slovakia, Interinstitutional
Relations and Foresight) and Dubravka Suica (Croatia, Democracy
and Demography).
Johannes Hahn (Austria) was proposed for the portfolio Budget
and Administration, Mariya Gabriel (Bulgaria) for Innovation and
Youth, Kadri Simson (Estonia) for Energy, Laszlo Trocsanyi will
lead the Neighbourhood and Enlargement portfolio, Virginijus
Sinkevicius (Lithuania) will be responsible for Environment and
Oceans, Janusz Wojciechowski (Poland) for Agriculture, Rovana
Plumb (Romania) for Transport and Janez Lenarcic (Slovenia) for
the Crisis Management portfolio.
The nominees need confirmation by the European Parliament to
take office. (ANSA).
