High NEET rates in Bulgaria and Romania

But Italy and Greece have the largest share at EU level

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 27 JUN - Many Central- and Eastern EU countries have recorded a relatively higher percentage of young people aged 20-34 neither in employment nor in education and training (NEET) than the EU average in 2018, show Eurostat data published today.

According to the EU statistical office, some of the highest NEET rates in the EU were recorded in 2018 in Bulgaria (20.9%), Romania (20.6%), Slovakia (20.0%), Croatia (18.5%) and Hungary (17.0%), all above the EU average, currently at 16.5%. The highest NEET rates in the European Union were recorded in Italy (28.9%) and Greece (26.8%), two countries where more than a quarter of all young people aged 20-34 were neither in employment nor in education and training.

The lowest NEET rates for people aged 20-34 in 2018 were registered in Sweden (8.0%), the Netherlands (8.4%), Luxembourg (9.9%) and Malta (10.1%), Eurostat said. (ANSA).
