Pristina’s move boosted smuggling, Ljajic said

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, DECEMBER 22 - Serbian Trade minister Rasim Ljajic announced today that Belgrade had lost more than 34 million euros in direct damages since Pristina introduced 100% custom duties on Serbian and Bosnian goods, the agency FoNet reported. "Since November 21 until today, less products were exported to Kosovo and Metohija for a value of 34,6 million euros," Ljajic said.

Ljajic added that the figure showed only the direct damage to the Serbian export, but the measure had multiple and severe indirect effects, including boosting smuggling of goods. Smuggling "is blooming, as people have to manage" under the current circumstances, the minister noted.

Statistics show that exports from Serbia to Kosovo amount to around 400 million euros yearly. (ANSA).
