Bosnia: Mogherini expects a convincing commitment on EU path

EU High Representative met Covic, new excise regime high priority

(ANSA) - BRUXELLES - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, expects that "Bosnia and Herzegovina would deliver convincingly on its EU commitments", says the European External Action Service (EEAS) after a meeting in Brussels between Mogherini and the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Covic. They exchanged views on the political situation in the country and its European Union integration path.

Notably, Brussels urges Sarajevo to adapt swiftly the excise duty law: a new excise regime is essential for Bosnia and Herzegovina to benefit from the EU infrastructure projects agreed in the Transport Treaty last September. Without a new law, the whole process is at a dead end. Mogherini urged the Bosnian President to complete the answers to the questionnaire issued by the European Commission by the end of the year, as well as "ensuring the continued and effective implementation of the Reform Agenda".

"All these steps are essential for Bosnia and Herzegovina's progress on the EU integration path", EEAS explains in a statement. "It is also something that the people of the country demand and expect".(ANSA).
